Miscarriage

Miscarriage is simply about how we express the unspeakable. We cannot predict, nor control, how grief manifests and finding the words or the outlet is oftentimes elusive.
The feeling of losing something before you have even experienced it fully is so catastrophically perplexing and leaves you lonely, confused and unsure how to process it as a loss. My experience of a miscarriage was very much medicalised and reduced to a confirmation of numbers - HCG levels from this number to that - no longer there. With friends and family avoiding talking about it, as if it was awkward, was also a surprise so I embraced the expression of ‘lost future’ in my sculpture - to show how it feels.
