Sculpture: The Greatest Sculpture in the History of Sculptures
The Greatest Sculpture in the History of Sculptures
2019, Bronze | Limited Edition of 25 | Received Commendation at FACE19 - Society of Portrait Sculptors
The Greatest Sculpture in the History of Sculptures is about the imagined flip-side of Trump’s ludicrous megalomania. His unyielding self belief begs the question; is there ever any self doubt?
I find it fascinating that someone can be so ruthlessly self assured without showing a hint of vulnerability. The cartoon-like version of himself he creates on social media invites ridicule and praise seemingly in equal measure. It’s interesting how such an extreme character creates such an extreme divide amongst us.
The wider subject of my work deals with the light and dark in all of us - every yin has a yang. We immediately become unauthentic in trying to convince the world that there is just one side to us as behind closed doors there usually exists self doubt. Does Trump ever go home and in private ponder ‘why do they hate me?’.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lizzie Cane’s work looks at the human condition and how, knowingly or not, we physically bare our soul through body language and behaviour. From the figurative to the abstract, across all mediums she aims to coax the viewer into reflecting on their own emotional experiences.
